ADAM KAHANE

In 1990, South Africa removed the ban on oppositon parties, Nelson Mandela was released from prison, and it was not clear whether the new political structure would come about through peaceful negotiations or civil war. Adam Kahane was brought in to facilitate dialogue among a diverse group of leaders in a series of discussions called The Mont Fleure Scenario Project. This series of discussions is widely credited as the foundation of South Africa's peaceful transition to democracy. Kahane talks about what he has learned about "solving tough problems peacefully" in his work with South Africa as well as other regions in the world. (20 minutes)
