WHAT IS MEDIATION?
- Mediation is a confidential process where an impartial third person helps two or more people resolve a dispute.
- It is a non-adversarial, collaborative, future-focused approach to conflict resolution where the mediator and particiants work together to generate a mutually agreed upon solution.
- Participation in mediation is voluntary. All parties have the right to terminate the mediation at any time.
- Mediation provides a respectful environment where people have the opportunity to express their interests in a clear, constructive, manner.
- The mediator assists the participants generate fair and reasonable solutions that meet the interests or needs of all the parties involved in the conflict.
- A successful mediation ends with a signed written agreement or memorandum of understanding.
